Finding the right accommodation in Rome is not always an easy task. There are a lot of independent hotels of unequal quality and also a vast of choice of private apartments. This time I planned my trip at the very last minute, but I had a good surprise with the Palazzo Olivia. My number one criteria was the location, because I love walking around Rome. Here it was absolutely perfect, being at only a few minutes from the beautiful Piazza Navona. And for a reasonable price during the high season, I got a one bedroom apartment of 30 m² ! I think I was upgraded because I booked an Junior Apartment for 2, but the one I stayed in was for 3 people (it had an additional sofa bed). There are also some hotel rooms, and some family apartments that can host up to 5 guests.
The reception is open daily from 2 PM to 7 PM. A cleaning service is included every other day, and you can have breakfast at the restaurant downstairs (also open for dinner). The apartment has a fully equipped kitchen so this is a good option if you have a tight budget for meals (you can shop at the little supermarket Carrefour Express, at Via del Governo Vecchio, 119 ). Otherwise there is a large number of restaurants in the neighbourhood. One of the concerns when travelling in Italy in the summertime is the heat, which can be quite suffocating. The Palazzo Olivia is equipped with AC but you won’t even need it. This is a 17th century building and the walls are so thick that it keeps the inside completely cool. So much that, believe or not, I even ended up putting the heating on with 31°C outside ! My only complain was the noise due to some refurbishment works taking place during my stay, starting early in the morning… the minimum would have been to be warned in advance. Despite this minor inconvenience, I have now found my “casa” in Roma and I will come back for sure !
Category : Apart’Hotel
Where? Via Dei Leutari 15, walking distance from Piazza Navona.
How much? I paid 100€ per night VAT included, breakfast included (in July 2014). Complimentary WIFI.
Note : If possible it is better to plan your arrival during the opening hours of the reception. If you arrive later than 7 PM, you can still do your check in with the restaurant, but it needs to be organized in advance. And be careful, the restaurant is closed on Monday night. Your luggages can be stored on the day of your departure.
